3. Bicycle BoySometimes I defy gravity. When Bobby Miller pushed me down that hill and I didn't get a scratch, that was defying gravity right there. And when we were playing tag in the playground and I could feel Camila Rogers coming up behind me, so I ran without even looking back, that was defying gravity too. And mom says all these things I call defying gravity are really just me being extraordinarily lucky, and has nothing to do with gravity whatsoever, but I still call it that. All my defying gravity moments make me a stronger person when I remember them. They all make me smile. But I smile the most absolute widest when I think of the bicycle boy.3. Last year, on the first day of school, it was horribly cold. My parka was purple and blue crochet, and though I'd hate to tell Granny that her needlework wasn't very warm, nor comfortable, it was just that. I stood there squirming and scratching at the bus stop, tottering back and forth on my ladybug printed galoshes while I tried to adjust my outfit.
2. MessengerBefore I was a messenger, I was in training to become a farmer. Life was fairly simple. I woke up when it was still dark, and began tending to the animals and crops. I helped my mentor farmer with whatever needed to be done, and by dinnertime I would be finished with everything. Farmer Neil gave me good meals, exactly what everyone else was eating. I knew some of my friends who were in training as farmers were lucky if their mentor gave them so much as slop from the pig's trough. I could always find something to complain about then, whether it was the long work hours and the little amount of free time, or the amount of pay. But now I see I was so lucky then. Life was comfortable and I had little risks to take. For this very reason I had taken up the job of messenger, the worst mistake I have ever made.
